Does intelligence harm? The price of high IQ

On September 29, 2014 an article on a website Žena.cz was published on the topic ‘Does children’s above average intelligence harm them?’ The author focuses in her article on different kinds of intelligence and also on whether this higher intelligence is beneficial or harmful to children. On this topic also the founder of Charitky Mrs. Miriam Janyšková answered.

Talent can be associated with a handicap in another area (e.g. dyslexia, a light form of autism etc.) and then it could lead to bullying. Among disadvantages can be also included the fact that such a person thinks differently than others, and therefore he or she may not always understand others and could feel very lonely. It is especially very hard for children with high IQ. ‘In the society there prevails a myth that an extraordinary cleverness in children is something that does not require any specific treatment or even financial support. Subconsciously, a lot of people think that intellectually gifted children are children of educated and rich parents and that there is no need for further support… That they could after all help themselves. However, it is not always only black and white,’ says Mrs. Miriam Janyšková, the founder of Charitky.
